Technical purpose A transformer is an electrical device used to change the voltage in an electrical circuit. It consists of two or more coils connected together with a magnetic core. When an alternating current passes through the primary coil, a magnetic field is created which induces a voltage in the secondary coil. This results in a change in voltage between the primary and secondary coils, allowing electrical energy to be transferred efficiently and safely from one circuit to another. Transformers are often used in power grids to adjust the voltage to meet the needs of different electrical appliances. |
