Imperial Fouling Protection System
Use advice for data set The flowchart in the figure below illustrates the system boundaries for the analysis, in accordance with the modular principle on EN 15804+A2. The analysis is a cradle-to-gate (A1-A3) study with options, in addition to module A4, transport to market, modules C1-C4 and module D are included.
Technical purpose of product or process Imperial Fouling Protection System is designed to use Megacote as a primer coat, Megasealer as middle coat and Megayacht Imperial Antifouling as top coat. These three products have a published EPD available in www.epd-norge.no. Megayacht Imperial Antifouling is a one component hydrolysing silyl acrylate antifouling coating. It provides excellent fouling protection and incomparable hull performance. This is achieved through highly predictable and stable self polishing characteristics reducing hull deterioration, friction and speed loss. The declared product is to be used as finish coat in immersed environments only. It is suitable on approved primers and tie coats on aluminium, carbon steel, composite and wood substrates. It can be applied at sub zero surface temperatures. Megayacht Imperial Antifouling is recommended for underwater hull in newbuilding and drydocking. It is designed as a premium solution for large sailing and motor yachts operating at a wide range of speed and activity. Megacote is a two component amine cured pure epoxy coating. It is a surface tolerant, abrasion resistant, fast drying, high solids and high build product. The declared product is designed as a universal, all round, all year anticorrosive coating. It can be used as primer in atmospheric and immersed environments. It is suitable for properly prepared carbon steel, galvanized steel, shop primed steel, stainless steel, aluminum, composite and wood substrates. It can be applied at sub zero surface temperatures. Megacote can be used in exterior and interior areas, including hulls, above and below waterline, superstructures, decks and water ballast tanks. It is suitable for osmosis prevention on composite hulls. Megasealer is a two component polyamide cured vinyl epoxy based coating. The declared product is specially designed as a tie coat between epoxy primers and antifouling systems. It is suitable on approved primers on aluminum, carbon steel, composite and wood substrates. It can be applied at sub zero surface temperatures and as tie coat in immersed environments. Megasealer is suitable as tie coat for a wide range of Jotun Yachting antifouling products. The material composition of the declared mixed product(s) are given below:

General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804. Incoming energy and water and waste production in-house is allocated equally among all products through mass allocation. Effects of primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the main product in which the material was used. The recycling process and transportation of the material is allocated to this analysis. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
