Use advice for data set Type of EPD: Cradle to gate with options, modules A4-5, C1-C4, and D. Module A1: Extraction and processing of raw materials. Module A2: Transportation of raw material to the manufacturing plant. Module A3: Membrane production at the plant and waste treatment. Module A4: Transportation to the construction site. Module A5: Includes all processes associated with product installation, as well as the production, transportation, and treatment of unused membrane. Includes therefore all additional material due to material overlap which is considered as installation loss.. Module C1: Demolition/Dismantling of the waterproofing layer. Module C2: Transportation of mixed roofing material waste for processing. Module C3: Incineration of membrane. Module C4: Final disposal in sanitary landfill. Module D: Credits and burdens beyond the lifecycle.
Technical purpose of product or process Butyl tapes are widely used in construction and civil engineering for their watervaportight, airtight and waterproofing properties. They are applied in various areas to prevent water ingress, vapor permeability and air infiltration and exfiltration, thus enhancing energy efficiency of constructions. Different backing properties may give specific benefit for specific applications, such as compatibility with other materials (mortars and adhesives), UV resistance, mechanical resistance, or esthetics.

Time representativeness description 2024 - 2030-12-19
Technological representativeness
Technology description including background system Butyl tapes are commonly used in construction to create a durable barrier against moisture ingress and water vapor permeability, as well as reducing air infiltration and exfiltration. The combination of IIR, SBS, resins and plasticizers create a pressure sensitive adhesive, which may be applied to various substrates. The compound also gives benefits when it comes to sound dampening applications. The product is reinforced with 75 micron crosslaminated PE and 14 micron aluminium, providing exellent tear resistance and resistance to damage. The aluminium top layer will block UV radiation from reaching the adhesive, thus preventing degradation. The product conforms to EN 13967-2012 (Type A) - Damp proofing for building. Performance data of the product can be found on DOP-004-EN-1122-Strong Reinforced Alu Butyl Membrane (CE-marking).
