Protecta Service Coat FR-1 (pail) for Sweden
Use advice for data set The life cycle analysis is a cradle-to-grave study, excluding the use phase (B1-B7). It includes the extraction and production of raw materials and packaging, transportation to the manufacturing site, the production process itself, transportation to the construction site, waste management during product installation, demolition of the building, transportation to waste treatment facilities, waste treatment, as well as potential recycling, reuse, repurposing, or energy recovery. A4: Transportation from the factory in England to Sweden is included. Additionally, 300 km of transportation from our warehouse to the construction site is added according to the PCR. A5: The paint is applied by brush; therefore, electricity and water consumption are excluded. A 1% material waste is included. It also accounts for VOC emissions during installation. All packaging is sent for average waste management. C1: We consider it unlikely that the paint will be removed from the service penetrations to which it is applied. We therefore assume the service penetrations will be included in the documentation and that the environmental impact is covered by their EPD. C2: 50 km transport to the nearest waste treatment facility is assumed. C3: The entire product is assumed to be sent for incineration. C4: Ash from incineration is sent to landfill. D: Incineration generates energy for district heating and electricity production.
Technical purpose of product or process Protecta Service Coat FR-1 is an acrylic based intumescent coating designed to increase the fire resistance of fire seals and protect cables, cable trays and metal pipes. The coating protects the cables outer plastic or rubber sheath, and thereby protects the conductors to secure continued electrical supply in a fire situation. The product also protects and lowers temperatures in metal services passing through a fire seal, thereby increasing the overall fire resistance. The coating is non-toxic, durable and can be applied in a thin coat, saving both time and money. It is a hardwearing coat, formulated to the highest specification and offering unsurpassed intensity of colour. The coating can be tinted; all colours are water-based and provide a smooth, rich and non-reflective finish. Protecta Service Coat FR-1 normally requires no primer and no top coat. The product also has the added benefit of being easy to use and very easy to clean up.

General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804. Incoming energy and water and waste production in-house is allocated equally among all products through mass allocation. Effects of primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the main product in which the material was used. The recycling process and transportation of the material is allocated to this analysis. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
