Geographical representativeness description Norway and Europe.
Reference year 2025
Name
Royal-impregnated timber
Technical purpose of product or process Royal-impregnated timber is used outdoors as cladding on facades, terraces, roof boards, and structural wood. The oil sealing reduces swelling, moisture absorption, shrinking, and cracking of the wood. Marnar Royal is approved for rot resistance in durability class 1 according to NS-EN 350-1. Marnar Royal is pine that has been specially treated. The wood is first pressure-impregnated with a copper-based preservative, which ensures effective protection against rot. After impregnation, the wood is boiled in linseed oil under vacuum, with or without color pigments. This reduces moisture absorption, shrinkage, swelling, and cracking, as the wood receives an even and thorough sealing. This makes the product highly suitable for cladding, terraces, battens, and wooden roofs. Translation of table terms: Impregneringsmiddel = Impregnation agent Royalolje = Royal oil Trevike, tørr masse = Wood, dry mass Vann, i trevirke = Water in wood Pappemballasje = Cardboard packaging Plastemballasje = Plastic packaging Stålmballasje = Steel packaging

General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Production data was collected from the production site in 2025, with 2024 as the reference year. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804. In forestry, economic allocation between sawn timber and solid wood is used. At sawmills, energy, water, waste, materials and internal transport are divided into sub-processes and then allocated according to income between the main and secondary products. Environmental impact and resource consumption for the primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the original product system. Note: Economic allocation has been used in production processes throughout the entire value chain that are considered co-producing (joint co-processes) according to EN 15804 (2021). Different interpretations of the regulations have led to varying methodologies being practiced across Europe. This life cycle assessment follows "school 1" as described by EPD-Norway (2024). Changes in results may occur upon final harmonization of the regulations. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
