Key Data Set Information
Reference year 2025
Name
Retrofit connector kit and installation support frame for Relay Retrofit Program for SPACOM to REX615
Use advice for data set The life cycle assessment is a “cradle-to-grave” analysis, and the system boundaries are defined according to EN 50693, as required by the PCR. For transparency reasons, the manufacturing stage is further divided into an upstream and core stage.
Technical purpose of product or process The retrofit connector is marked on the top based on the existing SPACOM relay terminal numbers. The user can disconnect secondary wires from the existing SPACOM relay terminal and re-connect the same on the corresponding number of the retrofit connector. Retrofit connectors allow users to rewire without referring to the schematic diagram or relay manual. It also minimizes the time required to rewire and update the schematic drawings. The installation support frame helps the user mount retrofit connectors temporarily during rewiring. The installation support frame helps only the installation-re-wiring process, which can be repeated for other SPACOM relay retrofits.

General comment on data set Both primary and secondary data are used. The main sources for primary data are the SAP material master and technical drawings. This is extracted from: 1) SAP – the enterprise resource planning system, 2) Internal data libraries, and 3) Supplier databases. Site specific foreground data are provided by the Product Engineering Manager and Product Manager. For all processes for which primary data are not available, generic background data originating from the ecoinvent v3.11 database, with system model “allocation, cut-off by classification”, are used. The LCA software used for the calculations is SimaPro Craft 10.2. The utility consumption by ABB, in the core manufacturing stage, is allocated to the production of one reference product according to applicable rules. The allocation is described in detail in the Life Cycle Inventory chapter. Regarding utility waste, only relevant packaging materials are considered, as the product is box built and the manufacturing stage includes only applying the RRP for SPACOM to REX615 connector kit to the relay, delivering the installation support frame and the final testing of the retrofit. To ensure mass balance, additional materials are also allocated to the upstream manufacturing stage according to the waste output in the core manufacturing stage. For the end-of-life allocation, the “Polluter Pays” principle is adopted according to what is defined in the CEN/TR 16970 standard, as required by EPDItaly007. However, the potential benefits and avoided loads from recovery and recycling processes are not considered because it is not required by the PCR. The PCR EPDItaly007 does not provide any details about cut-off criteria; it refers to chapter 4.2.3.3 in the standard EN 50693. According to EN 50693, the cut-off criteria can be set to a maximum of 5% of the overall environmental impacts. In this LCA, labels as well as the tape and staples used in the packaging have been excluded as their weights are negligible.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
