Name
Recycled mixed polymer - ScaleAQ
Technical purpose of product or process "Recycled mixed polymer - ScaleAQ" are flakes from discarded walkways. The flakes can be used in the production of new products such as walkways, fenders and bushings, as a substitute for virgin raw materials. The decommissioned walkways are placed in a container. From this container, the walkways pass via conveyor belt through a shredder. The material is then pneumatically transported and filled into big bags. Tests of the re-granulate are conducted from these bags. The size of the finished product has a size of 4-6 mm.

General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. All primary data (quantities of plastic, packaging, waste fractions, electricity, transport distances, etc.) were provided by Scale Aquaculture Circular AS for the period 10.05.2024-04.07.2025. The grinding process is estimated to be homogenous during this time period. Allocation: No specific allocation was required in module A3. Scale Aquaculture Circular AS directly measured the electricity requirement of the Grinding facility over a 14 month period. The grinding process is estimated to be homogenous during this time period. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances. The maintenance consumable "lubricant" used in production as well as the electricity required to charge the electrical forklift are estimated to contribute to environmental impacts well-below the accepted cut-off criteria, due to very low amounts used.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
