Use advice for data set This EPD covers the life cycle modules A1–A3 (raw material extraction, transport to factory, and production), module A4 (transport to storage and further to Norwegian port). In addition it includes module A5 (waste treatment of packaging), module C3 (product waste processing/biogenic carbon) and module D (reuse, recovery, recycling of potential of waste). In cases where the product does not contain biogenic carbon, the data in module C3 will be zero. The system boundaries are defined according to EN 15804+A2.
Technical purpose of product or process Seacare OSD-2 is a biodegradable hydrocarbon-based Type I oil spill dispersant with high dispersing efficiency and low toxicity, approved as a Type I dispersant according to LR448 specifications by the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA). It is intended primarily for undiluted use on sea, beaches and rocks, where permitted, to disperse mineral oils, crude oils, residual fuel oils, diesel fuel oil, kerosene, white spirit and lubricant oils. The product is suitable for treating oil spills during loading or discharging of cargo or bunkers, and for cleaning spills on decks, ship sides, piers and wharfs where local regulations allow. • Approved Type I dispersant according to LR448 specifications by DEFRA, covering efficiency and toxicity requirements • Disperses mineral oils, crude oils, residual fuel oils, diesel fuel oil, kerosene, white spirit and lubricant oils • Intended for undiluted use on oil spills in marine and coastal environments, including sea, beaches and rocks, where permitted by local regulations • Can be used to clean spills on decks, ship sides, piers and wharfs where allowed
General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804. Incoming energy and water and waste production in-house is allocated equally among all products through mass allocation. Effects of primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the main product in which the material was used. The recycling process and transportation of the material is allocated to this analysis. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
