Technical purpose of product or process The EPD applies to prefabricated double-skin steel faced sandwich panels with a core made of mineral wool, which are produced by Límtré Vírnet ehf. which is member of PPA-Europe. The profiled internal and external faces are made of a core of 0,6 mm GreenCoat® steel, which is protected against corrosion with zinc and organic coatings. The thermal insulating core material is made of mineral wool according to EN 13162 with sealing on the joints. The core is bonded with adhesive to the steel sheets on both sides, to ensure a certain resistance to shear forces of the panel. The SF panels maintain a Declaration of Performance taking into consideration EN 14509 and the CE-marking. The data listed in the Declaration of Performance apply. For the application and use, the respective national provisions apply. The products are used for self-supporting and structural applications in roof, wall and ceiling structures. Sandwich panels in wall and roof applications take on tasks of the building physics, especially loads, sound, heat and moisture safety. They simultaneously perform the function of air tightness of the building envelope. The SF panels are available in 6 different thickness from 63 to 196 mm.

General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804. In forestry, economic allocation between sawn timber and solid wood is used. At sawmills, energy, water, waste, materials and internal transport are divided into sub-processes and then allocated according to income between the main and secondary products. Environmental impact and resource consumption for the primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the original product system. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
