Name
Megagloss HG, Jotun Iberica S.A.
Use advice for data set The flowchart in the figure below illustrates the system boundaries for the analysis, in accordance with the modular principle on EN 15804+A2. The analysis is a cradle-to-gate (A1-A3) study with options, in addition to module A4, transport to market, modules C1-C4 and module D are included.
Technical purpose of product or process Megagloss HG is a two component chemically curing linear polyester based coating. It is a premium high solids topcoat with high gloss finish and excellent Distinctness of Image (DOI). It has excellent abrasion resistance, flexibility and colour and gloss retention. To be used as topcoat in atmospheric environments. Typical use: Exterior areas, including hull, above waterline and superstructure. Megagloss HG is available for roller and spray applications. For information on Green Building Standard credits, see subchapter "Additional technical information". The material composition of the declared mixed product is given below:

General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804. Incoming energy and water and waste production in-house is allocated equally among all products through mass allocation. Effects of primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the main product in which the material was used. The recycling process and transportation of the material is allocated to this analysis. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances.

Technology description including background system Product mixing ratio (by volume): Megagloss HG Comp A: 1 part(s). Megagloss HG Roller/Spray Comp B: 1 part(s). Density: 1.1 g/cm³ Solids by volume: 52 ± 2 volume% Film thickness per coat: Dry film thickness: 45 - 90 µm Wet film thickness: 90 - 175 µm Theoretical spreading rate: 11.5 - 5.8 m²/l The most representative and worst case formulation produced at the manufacturing site is chosen for this EPD. For products with a selection of colours, this will be the formulation with the highest content of titanium dioxide. Both options for component B are covered under this EPD, as the environmental impact does not differ significantly, and the option with the most conservative values has been used in the calculation. The product packaging is based on an average sized metal packaging, including secondary packaging such as pallets and plastic wrapping. For safety, health and environmental conditions, see the Safety Data Sheet for the declared product on www.jotun.com. For information on technical data, application and use of the product, see the Technical Data Sheet for the declared product on www.jotun.com.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
