Name
GreenLine Super EPS 80 - 100% recycled EPS raw material, with graphite Denmark
Technical purpose of product or process Product variation and calculation of averages: The insulation board is provided in several dimensions and thicknesses. Please use the conversion table in this EPD for other sizes than the declared variant. Product description: GreenLine Super EPS 80 (JS80RE) insulation boards are made using 100% recycled EPS raw material, with added graphite to improve thermal insulation performance. EPS is a lightweight polymer foam consisting of air-filled polystyrene cells. As 98% of the material is air, EPS provides insulating properties at low weight. Recycled raw material: The recycled EPS raw material is produced from collected EPS waste from sources such as the fish and packaging industries. The material is compacted, shredded and extruded into recycled general-purpose polystyrene (rGPPS), which is further processed into expandable EPS raw material. For GreenLine Super EPS, graphite is added to improve thermal insulation performance and gives the boards their distinctive grey colour. Manufacturing process: To manufacture the insulation boards, BEWI expands the recycled EPS raw material using steam. The expanded polystyrene is fed into a block molding machine, where steam and pressure form large EPS blocks. The amount of EPS fed into the mold determines the block density. After molding, the remaining pentane outgasses from the blocks, which are then cut to the desired size. Technical characteristics: GreenLine Super EPS 80 (JS80RE) has low moisture absorption, long service life and high compressive strength. The addition of graphite reduces radiant heat loss and improves thermal insulation performance. The improved thermal insulation performance may allow the same energy requirements to be achieved with less insulation volume, depending on the specific building design and requirements. Pressure class 80 (JS80RE) provides a compressive strength of 80 kN/m² at an approximate density of 16.3 kg/m³. EPS can be recycled through suitable EPS recycling processes. Declared variant: The declared variant has a density of 16.3 kg/m³, a thickness of 31 mm and a weight of 0.51 kg per declared unit. Documented product information: GreenLine Super EPS is declared in this EPD using product-specific data for a variant based on 100% recycled EPS raw material with added graphite. Environmental indicators are reported in the EPD results tables and should be assessed according to the declared unit, system boundaries and calculation rules stated in this EPD.

General comment on data set Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804+A2. Incoming energy and water and waste production in-house is allocated equally among all products through mass allocation. Effects of primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the main product in which the material was used. The recycling process and transportation of the material is allocated to this analysis. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
