| Technical purpose of product or process | Product Variation and Calculation of Averages: The insulation board is provided in multiple dimensions and thicknesses. Please refer to the conversion table in this EPD for details regarding other sizes than the declared variant. Product Description: GreenLine Super EPS combines the benefits of BEWI’s innovative Super EPS technology with a sustainable approach, incorporating recycled raw materials. This product offers an environmentally conscious alternative for thermal insulation while maintaining exceptional performance. GreenLine Super EPS insulation boards are made from recycled expanded polystyrene (EPS), a lightweight polymer foam consisting of air-filled polystyrene cells. As 98% of the material is air, EPS provides excellent insulating properties with low weight. Other characteristics include: - Reduced Thermal Conductivity: The addition of graphite to the EPS raw material gives the boards their distinctive grey color and reduces radiant heat loss, improving thermal insulation performance. - Material Efficiency: Achieve the same energy requirements with less volume, reducing CO2 emissions and material usage. - Sustainability: The boards are manufactured using recycled EPS from post-consumer and industrial waste, collected and compacted from sources such as the fish and packaging industries. The recycled material undergoes a thorough process involving shredding, extrusion, and re-expansion to create high-quality, expandable EPS raw material. - Durability: GreenLine Super EPS features low moisture absorption, long service life, high compressive strength, and is 100% recyclable. Manufacturing Process: The production process integrates recycled raw material with advanced EPS technology: - EPS waste is collected, compacted, shredded, and extruded to create recycled general-purpose polystyrene (rGPPS). This is further processed to produce expandable EPS pellets with added pentane and graphite (the latter is added to enhance thermal performance, resulting in the grey variant of EPS). - The expanded pellets are fed into a block molding machine, where steam and pressure form large EPS blocks. - The density of the blocks is controlled during molding, with GreenLine Super EPS in pressure class 80 (JS80RE), offering a compressive strength of 80 kN/m² at an approximate density of 16,3 kg/m³. - After molding, remaining pentane is aired out, and the blocks are cut into the desired shapes and sizes. Environmental Impact: GreenLine Super EPS reflects BEWI’s commitment to sustainability, significantly reducing waste and utilizing recycled materials without compromising quality. This innovative solution aligns with modern environmental standards and the growing demand for circular economy practices. |

| General comment on data set | Data quality: Specific data for the product composition are provided by the manufacturer. The data represent the production of the declared product and were collected for EPD development in the year of study. Background data is based on EPDs according to EN 15804 and different LCA databases. The data quality of the raw materials in A1 is presented in the table below. Allocation: The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804+A2. Incoming energy and water and waste production in-house is allocated equally among all products through mass allocation. Effects of primary production of recycled materials is allocated to the main product in which the material was used. The recycling process and transportation of the material is allocated to this analysis. Cut-off criteria: All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. The production processes for raw materials and energy flows with very small amounts (less than 1%) are not included. These cut-off criteria do not apply for hazardous materials and substances. |
